Netflix today announced a $2 billion investment in European content production, marking the company's largest commitment to the region to date. The streaming giant will expand its existing studio facilities in Shepperton (UK), Tres Cantos (Spain), and a new facility in Germany, creating an estimated 10,000 direct and indirect jobs across the continent.

The investment will fund the production of 200 original European titles in 2026, spanning scripted series, films, documentaries, and unscripted formats. Netflix's European originals have proven increasingly successful globally, with recent hits like 'Berlin' (Spain), 'The Crown' (UK), and 'Dark' (Germany) ranking among the platform's most-watched international content.

The announcement was welcomed by European cultural ministers, who have been advocating for greater investment in local creative industries. Netflix also confirmed that at least 60% of the new productions will feature local-language content, supporting the EU's Audiovisual Media Services Directive requirements.
