WHO Launches 2026 Appeal to Help Millions in Health Emergencies and Crisis Settings
The World Health Organization has issued a global appeal for $1 billion to provide critical healthcare services to 36 emergency zones. The funding is intended to support 81 million people facing conflict, displacement, and disease outbreaks.
The World Health Organization (WHO) today launched its 2026 global appeal to ensure that millions of people living in humanitarian crises and conflicts can access health care. The appeal focuses on 36 urgent situations worldwide, including 14 Grade 3 emergencies which require the highest level of international intervention. Key priority areas for the coming year include Sudan, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, emphasized that the appeal is not an act of charity but a strategic investment in global health security. The funds will be used to deploy 1,370 mobile clinics, support over 8,000 health facilities, and deliver life-saving vaccinations to more than 5 million children. Despite the rising demand for services, global humanitarian financing has seen a contraction, making this year's appeal more critical than ever.
